Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023:
STRAL light up Brescia Castle
during
Light is Life event
From February 10 to 19, 2023, will take place Light is Life, the big event organized by A2A as part of the events scheduled to celebrate Bergamo Brescia - Italian Capital of Culture 2023.
The heart of the event is the Castle of Brescia, where STRAL, technical sponsor, for the occasion will illuminate the entrance portal to the area in front of the Museum of Weapons, with lighting curated by lighting designer Daniele Davino, who is also the protagonist of the lighting of Arcus Lucis the light installation placed at the main entrance of the Castle, one of the 15 of which the path inside the fortification is scattered.
Daniele Davino explains during the interview that "the work at the Brescia Castle is positioned within a major Festival of Lights of which the STRAL project is a part and involves a dialogue between the architectural lighting and the artworks that are placed within the path."
He continued, "It was important to enhance the architecture of the Castle by bringing out its beauty, going to emphasize, with functional but at the same time artistic lighting, the most beautiful points of the site. The eye wants its part not only in the evening context, but also during the day with the light fixtures turned off."
STRAL has been chosen for the lighting of this historic context because "it guarantees a very high-quality product of both the finishes and the material. Often in lighting historic contexts it is difficult to balance modern lighting fixtures that do not clash with the materials of the historic location, in this case stone and brick, but STRAL finishes, particularly Inox Bronze, are particularly well suited," Davino responded when asked why he found STRAL appropriate for lighting this historic context.
Davino concludes by pointing out that the real challenge for a lighting designer is to understand from the early stages of the project what will happen over time and how critical it is in outdoor lighting to ensure quality and functionality in the materials selected. Choosing quality materials avoids problems of premature deterioration, which implies considerable unacceptable economic waste.
More specifically, products from the BENTH line were installed to illuminate the drawbridge that leads visitors through the archway in front of the area dedicated to the Museum of Arms.
Instead, the arch is illuminated by HOKU, with its directional light projection.
To illuminate the medieval walls above the bridge, wall lights from the MOON line take center stage.
